Typography

Artist Reflection:

I feel that the strongest part of my artwork was the overall shape that the words created. I think that the image actually portrays what its supposed to be. A part that could be improved is making it less obvious that the image is made out of words. To improve this I could have used smaller fonts or changed the size of the fonts a bit more. To create the art word I used the pen tool to trace the shapes I wanted to work on. Then I used the text type on path to outline the shape of the whale and then text in area to fill in the object. The easiest part of the artwork was filling in the object with words because I just had to type the same words over again. A difficult part was making sure the image looked like a whale and not just black and white letters. I was able to take an image of a whale and create the image out of words, demonstrating the goals of the project. If I could do the assignment again I would pay more attention to filling in the whole image rather than spending my time on the words themselves. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate my effort a 10 because I chose an image I thought was interesting, and did the best I could to bring it to life  and make it portray the original image.

Polygon Portrait

Artist Reflection
I think that the strongest part of my visual piece is the coloring I chose once converting it to photo shop because I like the way that the orange on the left contrasts with the dark tones of the picture on the right. The shapes on the image could be improved so that every part of the image has triangles and not just the face. I could fix it by adding more shapes to the bottom of the image as well as the hair. To create the image I used the pen tool as well as the eyedropper in Illustrator, then used photo shop to add the colors. I used the pen tool to trace the picture and also used it to create the shapes within the image. I used the eyedropper to add the correct color within each shape. Photo shop was then used to add the colors. During the art activity it was easy to trace he original image because I only had to outline the head, hair and eyes. It was difficult to create the nose without making it look unnatural. I was able to demonstrate the use of stroke and fill by outlining the outside of the image then filling each shape with the right color. If I could do the project again I would choose a different picture and take more time on each shape rather than the overall image. On a scale I would rate my effort at a 10. Although it didn't come out as good as I would have wanted, I did put effort into trying to make it the best I could.

Cartoon Project

Artist Reflection
I feel that the strongest part about my final cartoon project was the colors that I used because it made the image seem more realistic, especially because the skin and hair color is actually realistic. I think that the face of the cartoon could be improved because it doesn't resemble my facial features and just looks like a random cartoon character. I could improve it by spending more time on the facial features when I drew it before scanning in. For this project I used the polygon lasso tool, the paint brush, and dodge and burn. I used the polygon lasso tool to section out each part of the cartoon before coloring it, I used the paint brush to color each part of the cartoon the right color, I used the dodge tool to darken parts of the cartoon and the burn tool to lighten others. For this project it was easy to choose which colors looked good for each section because I was able to test some colors out and layer darker and lighter colors to make the cartoon more realistic. During the project it was difficult to get the cartoon to even remotely resemble me and it was also difficult to outline the image after scanning because some parts were curved and some parts needed more attention to detail then others. I was able to demonstrate each aspect of the project because I hand drew a cartoon inspired image of myself, then used both Illustrater to create a pen tool image and Photoshop to apply color and detail. If I could do the assignment again I would pay more attention and detail to the original drawing of myself and try to get it to resemble myself a lot more. On a scale of 1-10 I would say my effort was a 9 because although it didn't come out as good as I hoped, I tried my best to achieve all the goals of the project.

Reflection Questions and Final Polaroid

Artist Reflection

The strongest part about my finished art piece is the way in which I assorted the polaroids around the image, I like how they all flow together and don't look chopped up. My art piece could be improved by making all the components of the image flow together and look like on image that was made together, not put together. I used the polygon tool to crop out the polaroids and the text tool to add words to the images. It was easy for me to place the polaroids over the image because I just placed them wherever it looked right and cropped everything that looked weird out. It was difficult to find a background that suited the picture because certain things made the picture look odd or out of place, it was also difficult to add a mixed media because I didn't know what to add that wouldn't ruin the project. If I could do the assignment again I would spend more time on the text to make it blend into the image better and also choose a better image that had more components so there would be more to look at on the image. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate my effort as a 9 because I put effort .
